Re: Continued Support For Our Armed Forces
As the war with Iraq leads to a time for reconstruction
of a foreign nation and the establishment of a free
Iraqi society, it is more important than ever for Americans
to show a united front. While anti-war protests are
being organized around the country, men and women of
our U.S. Armed Forces are putting their lives on the
line. They are fighting to preserve our freedoms and
to gain freedom for the citizens of Iraq - including
the cherished freedom of speech. It is this cherished
freedom that allows anti-war demonstrators to express
their dissent in our country. We should all be proud
that our Nation has remained true to the heritage of
our Founding Fathers - and even more proud that we can
share our spirit of freedom and justice with the people
of Iraq. Our armed forces and their families are making
the ultimate sacrifice to share our freedom and keep
us safe at home. Let us give them our undivided support
and treat them as heroes when they return to our shores.
As Americans, both native and naturalized, we are the
beneficiaries of the countless sacrifices made by generations
of Americans past. As our world's last remaining superpower
we have a big responsibility. We are a nation under
God and when good nations do nothing, evil in the world
will thrive. We are and should be ending the terror
in and from Iraq by dethroning Saddam. No one, including
his neighbors, deny that he is a ruthless dictator who
tortures his own people. No one will be more grateful
for our help and sacrifice than the God-fearing and
good Iraqi citizens.
I am a member of the Navy League of the United States,
an organization committed to the support of the sea
services - including the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard
and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine all of which are taking
part in military action. I feel it is incumbent upon
all Americans to give visible and prayerful support
to all the members of the U.S. Armed Forces, their families,
and our Commander-in-Chief. No rational person likes
the use of force, but tyrants bow to nothing less.
I hope you will join me, and the Navy League, in showing
your support for the men and women who will continue
to sacrifice for the freedom of the world.
Sincerely,
Terry E. Hornbacker
